Joby Bell maintains an active career as a recitalist, teacher, and collaborator. He currently serves on the faculty at Appalachian State University, where he teaches organ and church music. His teaching specializes in memorization and practice techniques, service playing, choral accompanying, and maintaining grace under pressure. His acclaimed blog at <www.JobyBell.org> deals with a comprehensive range of issues facing organists, including teaching philosophies, recital preparation, and church music subjects. Joby holds degrees from Appalachian State University and Rice University. His teachers include H. Max Smith and Clyde Holloway. Joby previously served as organist at the Church of St. John the Divine, Houston, St. Philip Presbyterian Church, Houston, First Presbyterian Church, Houston (Aeolian-Skinner Opp. 912 and 912A), and First Presbyterian Church, Lenoir, NC (Aeolian-Skinner Op. 1101). In 2000, Joby Bell garnered the Audience Prize and Second Prize in the American Guild of Organists National Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance.
