John Apple

D. John Apple, a native of Michigan, has lived in Charlotte, NC since 1982. He has degrees from Westminster Choir College (M.M.), Houghton College (B.M.) and Concordia Lutheran Junior College/Ann Arbor (A.A.). He is historian for the Charlotte Chapter AGO and founder/president of Metrolina Theatre Organ Society. Since 1987 John has been involved with preserving the Carolina Theatre, Charlotte's 1927 movie palace, with plans for a theatre organ there. As a result, he co-founded the Carolina Theatre Preservation Society in 1997, of which he is vice-president. In April 2003, he was elected to the board of directors of the American Theatre Organ Society. He is the author of Pipe Organs of Charlotte (1985).
